The miniature train museum
280 SQM OF MODEL RAILWAY
About us
The HZERO museum has opened in downtown Florence and houses one of Europe's largest model railways, built over more than four decades by a group of passionate modelers. It is a 280-square-meter miniature imaginary world filled with thousands of characters with perfectly reconstructed 1:87-scale scenery that harkens back to the architecture of Berlin, the mountainous landscapes of the Dolomites, and the coasts of Elba Island.
In this playful work that manages to combine manual skills and technology, it is possible to see more than 70 trains whizzing along almost 1 kilometer of track with 121 traffic lights, 147 switches, 359 sections. A video projection system on the walls and a sound set-up make the visit a truly immersive experience.
HZERO also offers a collection of historical models on the second floor of the museum, along with a cinema room that tells the story of the model railroad through a documentary and a test track available for visitors. It is a museum for everyone, perfect for families with children, who can participate in one of the many workshops on weekends.

EVER-EVOLVING STORIES
The HZERO model encloses in its miniature reconstructions so many stories that are revealed at every glance. One has to look carefully at every detail and sharpen one's eyesight: this is the only way to notice the crime scene under one of the railway bridges with the forensic police intent on taking pictures; the bicycle race with the public, carabinieri, and cameras on motorcycles following the leaders of the race; a woman in a pastel-colored suit, ready to board a train, who looks just like Queen Elizabeth; a group of photographers ready to capture one of the oldest steam locomotives near the central station.
The skits contained in the HZERO model are truly thousands, each visitor will notice some details that someone else misses, and the visit will thus become an engaging treasure hunt to be experienced together.
In order not to miss a single detail of the miniature reconstruction, it is possible to explore some areas of the model with 3D viewers on the first floor of the museum. In the two gaming stations, visitors can walk through the alleys of HZERO town and feel themselves in a videogame looking for some hidden details, such as the balloon seller, the florist, the china store. The special effects on the first floor also recall the world of cinema thanks to the green screen: in the small movie set, it is possible to take a souvenir photo immersed in one of the sceneries of the model.
